There is a link between hand grip strength and bone mineral density. Both hand grip strength and bone mineral density gradually decline with age in post menopausal women. Women with lower hand grip strength also tend to have considerably lower levels of bone mineral density in their spine (particularly the lumbar region), the neck of the femur and all of the hip.

As we have indicated throughout this website, bone mineral density is a major constituent of bone health. The lower the levels of bone mineral density, the higher the risk of developing osteoporosis and therefore sustaining an osteoporotic fracture.
